Top uses for Colloidal Silver

07 February, 2019

Well finally we have got to February! Wasn’t January a long month? As you’re aware we like to keep you up to date with the trends within the world of health and well-being.

Today we are talking about a product you may not have heard of. Colloidal Silver is not a new substance and like so many it has an interesting story to tell. We are going to tell you some of the best reasons to use the product and explain its history.

What is Colloidal Silver?

A colloidal solution is a suspension of super fine particles; colloidal silver is therefore, a suspension of super fine silver particles. It is acknowledged that the vital fluids within our bodies are colloidal.

Stable Colloidal silver is clear and tasteless. It is made through passing a silver electrode through distilled water. This means that the silver is reduced to the smallest particle size and loses an electron.

Why might you use Colloidal Silver?

  • Silver is obviously an elemental product and we associate it far more with jewellery. However some of its health associations are now extremely relevant.

The most significant benefit of Colloidal Silver is that it offers us hope in our battle against bacteria. Given our ever increasing crisis with antibiotic resistance this has huge potential for our future health and wellbeing.

We read regularly about the latest MRSA outbreak or severe illness outbreaks as a result of increasingly strong bacteria. Each year colds seem to linger longer and their symptoms become more diverse and uncomfortable.

Colloidal Silver is not a new product but because it was side-lined years ago researchers are only just starting to look more seriously at the product again.

A number of years ago Robert Becker conducted research for his book The Body Electric and his conclusion was:

“Organisms that were resistant to antibiotics were not resistant to electronically generated silver ions”

Dr Becker noted that single celled germs could not mutate into silver resistant forms. This makes the substance of major significance for future healthcare. Mutation of bacteria is the reason we are struggling to fight them. Research does not appear to be able to outstrip the growth of ever resistant bacteria.

More recently, there have been some very successful trials with colloidal silver tackling colds and flu. Watch this space there is bound to be more to tell you in the future!

  • It has many “anti” properties which include it being:
    • anti-fungal
    • anti-viral
    • anti-septic
    • anti-bacterial
  • All of these properties make it a versatile and useful addition to your first aid kit. Just think of all the conditions that could be addressed with one product!
  • There are many reports of successful topical applications so it can be used for burns, wounds, sunburn, rashes, acne and even cuts.
  • Whilst we are talking topical applications it is also a great remedy for eczema, psoriasis, thrush and ringworm.
Regular readers will know how much we believe in the importance of managing inflammation. Colloidal Silver has the ability to offer us anti-inflammatory properties. It’s another “anti” but we wanted to list it separately because inflammation is the root cause of so many chronic diseases. The substance speeds up healing and reduces swelling. See our blog on Inflammation for more advice!
  • Those of you who have experienced either an eye or ear infection will know they can be very troublesome; they often return because sometimes they weren’t fully dealt with when you first got symptoms. The reason for this is that the causes are multiple bacteria. The usual treatment is an antibiotic which of course addresses a specific bacteria rather than a multitude of bacteria like colloidal silver.

The History of Colloidal Silver

It will not surprise you to learn that silver has been in use within healing practice for a very long time. Records go back to 4000 BC!

The writings from this time indicates evidence of its antibiotic properties. Moving forward to the First World War, silver compounds were used to prevent infection.

As with many historical use substances Colloidal Silver was pushed to one side with the advent of antibiotics. Prior to the development of antibiotics Colloidal Silver was a mainstream solution. However, antibiotics were more economical to produce and the substance was shelved in preference for the modern alternative.

The Future

Like all under used products research continues on this substance. However, people are making their own choices and choosing to find their own health solutions. We hope that this article has given you some inspiration and ideas that you will explore.

As ever, we always recommend that you choose a quality product from a recognised source. Our suppliers are all recognised and valued partners who we have traded with for a long time. Please look at our range of Colloidal Silver products!
